The performance of the RIDGID R8654B is consistent enough to handle powerful tasks. It can saw through some really high-pressure. Making it an ideal choice for building, remodeling, and many other small to big projects.
And it’s not even that expensive a circular saw for long-term use. It features a brushless motor with a light 8.5 lbs weight. So it’s portable and lightweight but with a motor capacity that can handle intense jobs.
It delivers a sturdy and dependable torque that’s a lot more affordable than the top competitors. Though it’s cordless, it doesn’t compromise on stability, thanks to the high-strength batteries.
The way the RIDGID R8654B is built, it feels convenient and stable to use. You can rely on the batteries to offer an extended run time. Plus, the batteries are 30% more efficient than their predecessors, making the Ridgid OCTANE run for longer without wasting too much energy. With the brushless motor, this is as consistent as an energy-efficient power tool can be.
Ripping down high-pressure materials is no joke with this saw. The stock blade the RIDGID includes boasts of impressive performance and consistency.
It offers smooth and clear visibility for free-hand operation. You can easily follow the sightlines even if you use chalk or a ruler to scale your cutting line. It’s easier to ride the saw, thanks to its lightweight body. But what also contributes to its ease of use are the ergonomically placed handles.
The handle has a grip texture that avoids slips and offers a sturdy and dependable grip for long periods of time. It’s a convenient feature that feels solid and doesn’t cause hand fatigue. The weight which is already low is well-balanced from front to back, leaving no room for bulkiness or wobbly performance.
The battery features a power indicator that you can check easily while using the saw. The fuel gauge is easily readable and you can expect a long run time. But keep in mind that the battery takes around 45 minutes to completely charge to full power.
The Ridgid R8654B does a great job for its price. The brushless motor, blade, sturdy handles, vacuum attachment, rafter hook, and dust chute keep the design convenient and stable to use.
Speaking of ergonomic features, the wide LED light is useful and maximizes productivity. However, it isn’t as bright as some of the other competitors. This is a letdown because the LED light does fail to illuminate the cutting line. So it doesn’t offer much visibility in low-light conditions.
Among the powerful features, there are a few that improve the accessibility of the circular saw. Those are the bevel scale and depth features.
The Ridgid OCTANE features sturdy and large numbers highlighted on the scale. The numbers are white and the scale is painted black. With 0 to 56 degrees bevel cutting with 4 stops, you can easily figure out the bevel angle you want with the easy-to-read scale.
It features a sturdy blade lock that you can easily access with your finger to keep the blade from straying from its path. The blade lock, lever, and markings are sizable, convenient, and very accessible.
Especially the lever because it does not feel stiff to adjust. The size is comfortable enough to push without feeling too tight or rigid. Even after months of frequent use, I don’t see a reason why you should buy it, even though it features a plastic lever. I’m confident that it can withstand long-term use.
