Makita 5007MG Magnesium 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw Review

Description
Design / Durability
Makita’s design is not what professional carpenters would expect. It’s modern but entry-level. However, this doesn’t make the Makita 5007MG Circular Saw unimpressive. It is a simply-made and precise circular saw for DIY beginners and intermediate users.
The base is made up of magnesium so it’s lighter with a well-distributed housing from all sides. It weighs around 10.6 pounds which is not too light. But it’s sturdy enough for outdoor use.
The 15 amp motor promises 5,800 RPM speed performance which is great. In fact, it’s more than great with the large cutting capacity of 2 to 1/2 inches at 90 degrees. And since we’re on the subject, it also features a bevel capacity of 0 – 56 degrees with dual positive stops.
The Makita 5007MG is worth investing in for the design alone. It’s strong, precise, and efficient to use. The magnesium base prevents rattling of any kind. The handling also seems to be smooth and convenient. Thanks to the rubber handgrips.
The higher number of teeth allows finer cutting edge with ergonomic control. The markings at the base, coil wire for consistent electric power, and heat-treated gears keep the machine running at top speed for a long time.
Utility Features / User-Friendliness
This feature-packed circular saw offers a great selection of features that make it appropriate to use for any and all types of DIY or professional jobs. The extra built-in LED lights is what I’m talking about. It provides a better viewing angle by illuminating the cutting area.
The rubber hand grip, on its own, feels secure and sturdy. But for someone who uses a circular saw a lot, it sure does reduce hand fatigue by the end of the day. It’s larger than by hand which is also a huge plus since it allows room for movement.
The levers, too, are rubberized for quick and easy adjustments. If you’re a multi-tasker (like it), you’ll appreciate the rubber protection on all the levers because it means one-handed operation rather than wasting seconds of your time.
It comes with a carrying case that is strong and it allows me to store a few extra blades easily. The stamped magnesium base does more than prevent rattling or vibration during use. It complements the rest of the design with the built-in dust blower that is not at all disappointing.
The blade wrench is sturdy and strong enough for frequent blade changes. In fact, it saves me a few more precious seconds because it handles the blade really well without any safety hazards.
Even though this is without the electric brake, it makes up for that loss in portability and ergonomics.
Safety Features / Long-Term Reliability
This is where the Makita 5007MG hangs back. It’s a basic portable circular saw with fewer safety features. The dust blower cleans well but it works only at a satisfactory level. The lack of an electric brake means you have to be more careful during use. So after turning off the machine, the blade does not automatically come to a halt. This is something beginners should be more mindful of than professionals.
But overall, considering the handling of the machine, it’s a smooth and versatile pick for daily use.
